Adelboden / Lenk Ski and Snowboard Resort, Switzerland

Regarded as one of Switzerland's top ski resorts, picturesque Adelboden and Lenk are situated on either side of the Metsch and the Hahnenmoos passes. The resort hosted the FIS Ski World Cup for men in February 2004. Both villages are 10kms apart but are completely connected by the one lift pass they share and the snowfields that roll over the surrounding mountains.

Adelboden / Lenk, set against a glacier-white backdrop, serves as a centre for 'Alpine wellness' and boasts some unique feel-good factors such as its location at the medicinally optimum altitude of 1,350m above sea level. The pure and healthy spring water, mild invigorating climate and mountain freshness all add to the cleansing nature of the resort.

There are 17,000 guest beds at the resort of Adelboden / Lenk, with many situated in traditional wooden chalets nestling along the mountain sides. There are also some rather unique overnight stays available in igloos. More than a dozen mountain restaurants offer delightful Swiss and German gourmet cuisine with bars, discos and musical performances providing inviting attractions at this culturally splendid location. Folklore evenings, woodcarving workshops, plus other typically Alpine activities are also available here.

170kms of prepared slopes offer a diverse selection of terrain suitable for all levels, with 46 per cent of runs for the beginner, 44 per cent for intermediate level and 10 per cent for advanced skiers. The longest run at the resort is six kilometres, and the total vertical descent is 950m from a top elevation of 2,350m.

Forty-six lifts service the area, including cable cars, gondolas, chairlifts and T-bars, with an uplift capacity of 32,350 skiers per hour. An additional 77kms of cross-country ski runs are available, and there are well-staffed schools at the resort.

For an extra ski experience, purchase the six-day ski pass and get a one-day ski pass with access to the world famous Gstaad super ski region, which has 250kms of varied pistes and offers exclusive night-spots plus over 50 restaurants serving local specialities and the finest international cuisine.

The season at Adelboden / Lenk runs from December to April with fine conditions all season and good snowfall due to the resort's elevation. Cheap combination learn-and-ski passes are available for both villages. The nearest international airport is 195kms away in Zürich, which has trains running to Bern and then on to Frutigen, just 15kms from the resort by bus.
