Brixem Im Thale Ski and Snowboard Resort, Austria

Brixen Im Thale is one of nine villages in the northeast area of the state of Tyrol. The ski world of Wilder Kaiser - Brixen Valley is linked by an extensive lift system and is the largest connected skiing area in Austria, the Ski-Welt.

The lovely town of 2,700 people nestles amid gently rolling hills and contains beautiful old farmhouses, good food, old traditions and authentic hospitality. The centrepiece of Brixen Im Thale is Pfarrkirche Maria Himmelfahrt, an 8th century Gothic church, which is open throughout the day and is well worth exploring during a break from the slopes.

Brixen Im Thale ski resort is renowned for its cuisine, with eight restaurants in the town itself and an astounding 63 in the surrounding Ski-Welt area. Similarly, the range of accommodation is seemingly inexhaustible, featuring quality hotels, guesthouses, pensions, holiday apartments, farmhouses, and campsites. Après-ski activities are afforded by four bars, two discos, four cafés, an ice bar, seven coffeehouses, folklore evenings, concerts, casino and sauna. Childcare can be arranged between 09:00 and 17:00.

There are 250kms of prepared slopes in the Ski-Welt region, with all levels of skier catered to. The longest run is eight kilometres on the Ski-Welt and 4.5kms in Brixen, while the vertical drop is an impressive 1,100m. The Ski-Weld slopes are served by 94 lifts, 11 of which are in Brixen Im Thale. There are 65 mountain huts and inns in the ski arena, two ski schools, snow bars and snowmaking.

Brixen is connected with eight other ski resort villages: Westendorf, Hopfgarten, Itter, Soll, Going, Scheffau, Ellmau and Kelchsau. Opportunities for rewarding daytrips abound if bad weather makes skiing uncomfortable or impossible. Salzburg and Innsbruck are both under an hour away and offer a cultural and architectural smorgasbord. Farther away, but equally accessible, is Munich.

Brixen’s ski season runs from mid-December through mid-March, with either end of the season a great time for discounted rates. Munich is the most convenient gateway to Brixen Im Thale, with plenty of air, road and train connections to most parts of Europe. Regular bus and train services are available from Munich to Brixen.
