Cesana Torinese Ski and Snowboard Resort, Italy

Cesana Torinese is part of the Milky Way ski region, and is situated high in the Susa Valley, in the southwestern Alps on the Italian/French border. It has challenging ski terrain, good facilities, direct access to the facilities of the linked resorts around it – and is easy to reach. There is also summer glacier skiing at the resort.

Cesana Torinese ski resort encompasses six traditional Alpine villages: Bousson, Desertes, Fenils, Mollieres, Solomiac and Thures. Facilities are fairly limited but there is a good range of local handicraft and clothing shops, as well as a ski kindergarten in Sansicario.

Lodging is provided by a selection of hotels and pensions, mainly in Claviere and Cesana. Hiking, ice-skating and sledding are alternative winter activities; while the resort’s cafés and restaurants are renowned for delicious local Italian cuisine. Après-ski is also supplemented by several bars and discos.

There are 40kms (85kms combined with the lift linked French resort of Montgenevre) of downhill ski terrain at Cesana Torinese ski resort for all levels of abilities, with an emphasis on the intermediate to advanced skier and snowboarder. Four chairlifts and eight surface lifts operate over all pistes.

For alternative skiing, the Milky Way Ski Pass offers approximately 400kms of ski terrain at six different resorts. Away from the slopes, the nearby Chaberton Fortress (Europe’s highest) stands at 3,130m amid the beautiful scenery of the Alte Valle Dora and the Briancon dell on the French side, and the Monginevro plain on the Italian side.

The ski season at Cesana Torinese is between December and April, with special rates at the beginning and towards the end of the season; glacier skiing is also available in the summer. The most convenient means of getting here is by air travel to Turin and car hire.
