Champéry Ski and Snowboard Resort, Switzerland

Located just south of Lake Geneva and straddling Switzerland and France, Champéry ski resort is part of the ski area of Portes du Soleil, a ski region that claims to be the biggest in Europe. Champéry's local slopes are very sunny and are ideally suited for intermediates, with a scattering of beginner and good expert slopes.

Champéry is a picturesque little Alpine village with a cosy and friendly ambience. Situated in the bottom of a valley and featuring breathtaking views of the Dents du Midi, with their rugged mountain peaks, Champéry is now an international resort with excellent facilities and a good range of shops.

Champéry alone has almost 7,000 beds with additional lodging facilities available nearby. There are 630 beds in 11 hotels, and 6,100 chalet and apartment beds. Most of the nightlife is hotel-based, and there are plenty of cafés and shops for early après-ski as well as bars, nightclubs and scheduled concerts.

There are 30kms of varied runs at the Champéry ski resort, with a longest run of seven kilometres, and an outstanding 650kms of runs in the region. Such a vast amount of skiing terrain has a perfect piste for everyone. There are thirty five ski lifts locally with a total capacity of 10,000 people per hour (the 211 lifts found in the region cope with 238,000 people every hour).

Montreux lies to the north of Champéry and is well known for its casino and the fabulous Château de Chillon, a scenic well-preserved 13th century fortress. To the south is Martigny, found beneath the vine-clad hills on a bend in the scenic River Rhône, and is noted for the remains of a Roman amphitheatre and temple and the 13th century Château de la Bâtiaz.

Champéry’s ski season runs from mid-December to mid-April with special deals to be found at the start of the season, and also in mid-January, and mid-March. The usual way to get to Champéry is to fly to the international airport at Geneva, catch a train into the city and then transfer to the Monthey-bound train, and finally catch a bus to the resort.
