Edelweiss Ski and Snowboard Resort, Canada

Located northwest of Ottawa and near to the Ontario border, Edelweiss has many trails adapted to all levels of ability and is the number one ski resort in the Outaouais region for night skiing. Snow is guaranteed via an array of snow cannons, boarding is possible on all pistes, and an excellent tubing park will please the children.

The resort itself comes with a ski school, a first-aid area and ski sports shops; while the nearby town of Wakefield, with its pleasant atmosphere and interesting boutiques, offers more in the way of conveniences and accommodation.

There is one lodge at the base with 20 rooms available, and a further 3,000 beds within 30kms. Tubing is available for non-skiers, and for sustenance you have the main cafeteria and the bistro-bar, with its magnificent view of the trails. For additional après-ski, Wakefield is famous for the Blacksheep Inn, well known for its live folk, country, world and blues music.

Edelweiss has 18 pistes up to heights of 343m and a vertical drop of 190m. Four chairlifts, including one high-speed quad, have an hourly uplift capacity of 7,600 people and provide access to all slopes, the longest of which is 1.5kms.

Away from the slopes, the Outaouais region is a fascinating blend of past and future, country villages and rural back roads, and offers fascinating drives. Over the border and into Ontario, Ottawa is a vibrant and colourful city with a wealth of museums, theatres, heritage sites, cultural activities, world class shopping and fine dining.

The ski season at Edelweiss ski resort runs from November to April and the most convenient way to get here is to fly to Ottawa and take the ski bus. A tourist steam train also runs up alongside the Gatineau River to Wakefield.
