Flims / Laax / Falera Ski and Snowboard Resort, Switzerland

Located southeast of Zürich, in the canton of Graubünden, Flims, Laax and Falera are three neighbouring ski resorts in a sunny valley which share the same large ski area. There are extensive pistes covering every degree of difficulty and off-piste skiers will enjoy the marked ski routes. The Vorab Glacier extends the ski season.

The three villages are five kilometres from each other and are very well connected to the slopes and other villages in the area. Flims has two parts, Dorf (lively) and Waldhaus (quiet), on a wooded hillside. Flims is more traditionally Swiss while Laax, a very attractive resort, has excellent shopping.

There are over 3,500 beds available in Falera; 11,000 beds available in Flims; and an equal amount in Laax. Accommodations come in all shapes and sizes, from pensions and private apartments to hostels and five-star hotel/resorts. Cafés and restaurants are plentiful, with some exceptionally fine dining in both valleys. Flims Dorf and Laax take a lead in the nightlife scene, whereas Flims Waldhaus and Falera are quieter.

There are a staggering 220kms of total downhill runs at the Flims-Laax-Falera ski resorts, covering all levels of difficulty, and a longest run of 14kms (Vorab Glacier to Flims). A wide array of lifts can carry over 40,000 people per hour, and include four cable cars; seven gondolas; seven chairlifts; and 11 surface lifts.

For alternative skiing, Davos is only an hour away by car and has some of the best runs in the country. It shares its slopes with nearby Klosters, an exclusive ski resort popular with the rich and famous. Away from the slopes, Chur, capital city of Graubünden, is a blend of modern and medieval and offers wonderful sightseeing.

The main Flims-Laax-Falera ski season extends from November/December to mid-April, while glacier skiing begins as early as October. Special deals are offered before the Christmas holidays, and from mid-March (apart from Easter). The best way to get here is to fly to Zürich and take a train/bus combination transfer.
