Hafjell ski resort is located near the city of Lillehammer in the Oppland region of Norway, to the north of Oslo, and was the venue for the 1994 Olympic Alpine events. Hafjell offers fantastic skiing and snowboarding for all skill levels, in magnificent surroundings. Cross-country skiing and summer skiing are also featured.
The main town serving Hafjell is Lillehammer, Norway’s oldest winter sports resort. This traditional town has modern facilities and boasts beautiful old architecture and a wonderful atmosphere, as well as a traffic-free shopping area in the centre of town.
Hafjell ski resort offers 4,000 beds in a range of lodgings for all tastes and budgets, from luxury hotels to apartments, rooms and cabins. Non-ski activities are numerous and include the luge and sleigh riding, while après-ski is provided by an array of bars, discos, restaurants and cafés.
There are 27 pistes that run over 33kms of well distributed ski and snowboard terrain at Hafjell, with an emphasis on beginners and intermediates. Three quad lifts, eight surface lifts (four T-bars and four ropes) and a ski-track have an hourly lift capacity for 13,500 people and provide access to all slopes, the longest of which is seven kilometres.
Alternatively, the Gudbrandsdal Valley, north of Lillehammer, offers extensive cross-country trails. Away from the slopes, the nearby Jorekstad Leisure Bath, situated between Lillehammer and Hafjell Hunderfossen, is a great day out for the family and features a huge leisure pool, saunas and a waterslide.
The ski season at Hafjell ski resort runs from mid-November to mid-April and the most convenient means of transportation is to fly to Oslo and transfer by train to Lillehammer, and then take a Skibus to Hafjell.
