Klosters Ski and Snowboard Resort, Switzerland

Located southeast of Zürich and in the heart of the Graubünden region, Klosters ski resort shares a vast snowy arena with nearby Davos, namely Parsenn, and lies cradled in a romantic mountain landscape. Klosters has some of the finest downhill skiing in the world and is extremely popular with the rich and famous. There are slopes for beginners as well as for the most advanced skiers.

Klosters is a small and traditional village offering a low-key atmosphere and relative obscurity but packed with speciality stores. The most populous part of Klosters is Klosters-Platz. A smaller, less populated neighbourhood to the north is known as Klosters-Dorf. Buildings are constructed in the chalet style, giving the town a pleasing architectural harmony.

There are 2,000 beds in more than 30 hotels, and a further 6,500 beds in chalets, apartments and other accommodations. The less expensive hotels are located in Klosters-Dorf. There is a wide choice of places to relax après-ski, from colourful bars or tea rooms to outstanding restaurants. There are also plenty of enjoyable classical concerts. An excellent kindergarten will look after the very young while you hit the slopes.

Klosters ski resort has 170kms of groomed downhill runs, including the longest run of 12kms, across an equal range of piste difficulty. More than 50 transport facilities are interconnected with the Davos-Parsenn area, including two trams, eight gondolas, five chairlifts, and 16 T-bars, with a carrying capacity of 55,000 people per hour.

You already get to use the Davos slopes, but if you're after livelier nightlife, Davos town is bustling and has plenty of bars and nightclubs. There are charming hamlets all round Klosters and Davos offering interesting sightseeing.

The best time to ski at Klosters is during one of its special organized Ski Weeks. These weeks are normally held in early December, the last three weeks of January and the first week of February, and late March through to April. The best way to get to Klosters is to fly to Zürich, take a train to Landquart, and continue on to the resort by road.
