Situated in the Kamnisko-Savinjske Alps and lying in one of the most beautiful glacial valleys in Europe (Logarska Dolina), Krvavec ski resort offers a good range of runs that are mainly geared towards intermediate skiers and snowboarders. Krvavec is also renowned for its sunny slopes.
Many people tend to stay in the capital (Ljubljana) itself, with its extensive facilities, interesting buildings and museums and shopping. Ljubljana is only 32kms away from the resort; nearby Kranj is another choice.
Accommodation-wise at Krvavec, there are only 140 beds to choose from and another 1,400 in nearby villages in the valley. Sledding, tobogganing and a solarium are among the activities and facilities off the slopes, while après-ski, in the ski centre, is provided by five restaurants, a handful of bars and a disco.
Krvavec ski resort offers 25kms of groomed runs, with snowboarding and skiing up to altitudes of 1,971m, and a longest run of 4.5kms. Eight chairlifts, four surface lifts and a cable car, with an hourly capacity of 13,500 people, supply all pistes. Krvavec also has a separate area for snowboarders, with a half-pipe and a number of jumps.
For alternative skiing, head west to the Julian Alps to Bohinj ski resort, which comprises the villages of Kobla and Vogel. For a daytrip away from the slopes, the nearby 700-year-old city of Kranj has a beautiful old town that draws tourists to its numerous archaeological sites and other attractions. Ljubljana is also worth a visit.
The long ski season at Krvavec ski resort runs from late November to early May. Krvavec has the advantage of being only 10kms from Ljubljana Airport, which has buses and taxis to the resort. The closest railway station is located in Kranj, 17kms away.
