La Clusaz Ski and Snowboard Resort, France

Located in the northern Alps, to the east of Annecy, La Clusaz is one of the oldest ski resorts in France, nestled in the beautiful and unspoilt Aravis ski area. The resort offers excellent skiing and snowboarding, with slope difficulty evenly distributed. With good childcare facilities and top rate amenities, La Clusaz is an ideal ski resort for everyone. Cross-country skiing is very popular here.

Situated at 1,100m above sea level, La Clusaz is one of four villages in the Aravis range noted for their traditional wooden chalets and village atmosphere. La Clusaz has convenient lift access and there are plenty of recreation facilities, as well as plenty of shops. La Clusaz also offers interesting sightseeing, a luxury that purpose-built resorts can lack.

La Clusaz has over 22,000 beds in 22 hotels, apartments/chalets, second homes, tourism residences, and a youth hostel. There is an abundance of restaurants, shops, recreation facilities and a vibrant nightlife, featuring two discos and many pubs and bars. Nurseries for the kids are also available.

The skiing and snowboarding here is fantastic, with 132kms of untouched snow valleys, secret spots, and wide, open spaces. Eighty-three runs are linked by five interconnected mountain massifs and 55 ski lifts. Lifts include: two cable cars; four gondolas; 14 chairlifts; and 35 ski tows/draglifts. There is a capacity for 53,640 people per hour, and the longest run is four kilometres.

For alternative skiing, the surrounding area combines to offer over 200kms of ski and snowboard terrain, with 95 lifts. Away from the slopes and situated beneath towering, snow-capped mountains on a lake, Annecy is arguably the most attractive town in the Savoy Lakeland region. There are elegant villas and hotels, as well as spectacular views of town and lake from the 12th century castle.

The ski season at La Clusaz runs from December to April, and cheap rates are offered at the beginning and towards the end of the season. The most practical way to get here is to fly to Geneva and take the Skibus, via Le Grand Bornand, to La Clusaz.
