Located in the east of the Rhone-Alpes and 110kms east of Chambery, La Plagne is a family-oriented ski resort, well suited for beginner and intermediate skiers and snowboarders. There is also some challenging terrain with excellent off-piste runs; additionally, summer skiing is available on the various glaciers.
La Plagne is comprised of 10 villages, both modern, purpose-built and traditional, and ranging from 1,250 to 2,100m above sea level. All services are available throughout the villages and there are over 200 shops, as well as a host of sporting activities. Additionally, most villages offer ski-in and ski-out capabilities.
Slope-side accommodation is available and altogether there are over 50,000 beds on offer in hotel/resorts, chalets, apartments, hostels and houses; additional hotels are nearby. Cafés and restaurants offer every type of cuisine and at night La Plange is a hive of activity, with a large number of bars and discos. Nurseries are spread throughout the villages for ages 10 months to 6 years.
La Plagne has 122 runs that stretch over 212kms of pistes, serviced by 107 lifts. There is great learner skiing on wide slopes and plenty of off-piste for the more advanced skier and snowboarder, while the longest run is a whopping 15kms. La Plange's 107 lifts include: a cable car; eight gondolas; 23 detachable chairs; 10 fixed grip chairs; 47 draglifts and 18 ropes (mostly for children), with a capacity for 120,600 people per hour.
For fantastic views 380m above the valley, take the cable car known as the Vanoise Express from La Plagne to Les Arcs; the four-minute journey is a breathtaking experience. For alternative skiing, the Trois Vallees (Three Valleys) ski region is nearby and offers over 100 runs, including more expert slopes.
The ski season at La Plagne ski resort runs from December to April; while in the summer, you can ski the glaciers from July to August. The most convenient airport to fly into is Geneva-Cointrin, from where buses go to the resort.
