Located on the French-Italian border, to the east of Chambery, La Rosiere is a purpose-built, family ski resort linked with the larger Italian resort of La Thuile. With sunny south-facing slopes, La Rosiere's pistes are mainly geared for intermediate and advanced skiers and snowboarders, with wide pistes for learners and expert runs on the Italian side.
The resort is situated high up on a plateau and is both charming and attractive, with its traditional French architecture of wooded chalets. Accommodation is mainly in chalets and apartments, but there are also several larger hotels with all amenities. La Rosiere has a handful of bars and several restaurants, a discotheque and two small shopping malls, as well as excellent children's facilities.
La Rosiere ski resort has 63 pistes that run over 140kms of fantastic ski and snowboard terrain. All abilities are catered for, and those with an intermediate to advanced level of skill are particularly lucky. There are 37 lifts, including 20 draglifts, 16 chairlifts and a cable car.
The ski route over the Little Saint Bernard Pass is stunning, offering fabulous views of Mont Blanc, the Matterhorn and Monte Rosa. For alternative skiing, nearby La Plagne ski resort has 212kms of pistes which are geared more for the beginner and lower intermediate. The Vanoise Express cable car ride from La Plagne to Les Arcs also offers spectacular views.
The ski season at La Rosiere runs from late November to May (weather permitting) and there are cheaper weeks in mid-December, mid-January and after Easter. The nearest airport is Chambery but the most convenient airport is Geneva-Cointrin, from where a Skibus makes the transfer to the resort.
