Le Massif Ski and Snowboard Resort, Canada

Located in the attractive region of Charlevoix, to the northeast of Québec City, Le Massif ski resort is set in the vast and unending scenery of Le Massif de Petite-Rivière-St-François and boasts the highest vertical drop east of the Canadian Rockies. There are slopes here for skiers and snowboarders of all abilities and snow coverage is impressive.

You’ll find everything you’ll need at Le Massif resort, with boutiques and sports rental shops only steps from the slopes; while the surrounding Charlevoix region is steeped in a rich cultural tradition and is loaded with art galleries, museums and boutiques - making it ideal strolling for non-skiers. Childcare is available for children ages 2 to 10 years.

There is no lodging available at Le Massif but there are hundreds of beds in the nearby towns and villages in bed-and-breakfasts, motels and inns, and chalets and villas. Full spa facilities are available, while two cafés, the panoramic Mer and Monts restaurant, and a handful of lively pubs provide the après-ski. The nearest town of Baie-Sainte-Paul and Québec City offer a wider range of entertainment.

Le Massif comes with 36 runs from heights of over 800m above sea level to just 36m, and most of the terrain is given over to intermediate and advanced skiers and snowboarders. Five lift systems, including a high-speed quad with mid-station, have an hourly lift capacity of 8,700 people and feed all pistes, the longest of which is 3.8kms.

For a break from the slopes, the drive along the St Lawrence River, from Pointe-au-Pic to Baie-Saint-Paul, through St Irénée (known for the famous music academy Le Domaine Forget and its river beaches), is superb. From here, head down to the tiny town of Saint-Joseph-de-la-Rive, where a free ferry plies the route to Isle-aux-Coudres.

The ski season at Le Massif runs from November to April and the most convenient way to get here is to fly to Québec City and hire a car for the straightforward drive to Le Massif, or take the bus.
