Located in the east of Switzerland and situated in central Graubünden, southeast of Zürich, the two family orientated ski resorts of Lenzerheide and Valbella are linked by their skiing terrain, yet separated by a lake at the base of a beautiful, wide valley. There is excellent and varied skiing suitable for all abilities on both sides of the valley, as well as superb off-piste opportunities.
Lenzerheide is a charming old town linked with Valbella by a lake, as well as by lifts. Valbella is a tiny backwater village, while Lenzerheide is larger and extends along the valley. Both villages have all necessary services and shops as well as a museum and a public library. There are special ski classes and kindergartens for children from age two and up.
Lenzerheide and Valbella have some outstanding hotels in snow-covered surroundings, with 5,200 guest beds available in Lenzerheide and 2,500 in Valbella. There is a disco and a variety of restaurants and bars, but après-ski is limited in both villages, with mainly hotel-based entertainment.
Both resorts share 155kms of groomed downhill runs, including a longest run of 11kms. There are an equal number of beginner and intermediate slopes and 20kms of advanced pistes. Thirty-six ski lifts, comprising of 17 T-bars two cable cars, 12 chairlifts, three funiculars, and two gondolas, as well as child lifts, and has a capacity for 35,350 skiers per hour.
Davos is 40 minutes away by car and offers sophisticated skiing and plenty of charm, while the even more exclusive Klosters is farther north. To the west is Flims/Laax and Falera ski resort with its 220kms of slopes and summer skiing. Chur, capital city of Graubünden, makes an interesting break from the slopes and has interesting sights and medieval charm.
The ski season runs from December to April and special rates are offered pre-Christmas and January weeks. The best way to get to Lenzerheide / Valbella ski resort is to fly to Zürich, take a train to Chur, and a Postbus from there to the villages.
