Les Gets ski resort is situated between Lake Geneva and Mont-Blanc, in the middle of the Portes du Soleil ski area, the largest internationally linked ski area in the world. It’s a quiet resort in lush surroundings with a good snowfall record and offers a superb range of beginner and intermediate slopes, as well as difficult ones for the more experienced.
Les Gets is an authentic French village with a laid-back atmosphere and charming old buildings comprised of typical Alpine chalets and lodges. This small and appealing village is made up of two main streets which lead up to a pretty church, and is ideal for those who appreciate a more sedate nightlife, but with ample après-ski facilities.
Although only a small village, Les Gets boasts over 15,000 beds in hotels, chalets, and private lodgings, and there are dozens of restaurants in the village serving traditional French fare and international cuisine. Ice-skating, bowling and swimming are among non-skiing activities and, despite the laid-back nature of the resort, there are 12 bars and a nightclub.
There are 65 runs spread over 120kms of pistes at Les Gets ski resort, the longest of which is eight kilometres. All levels are catered for, with an emphasis on the beginner and intermediate skier and snowboarder. Fifty-three ski lifts operate over the entire field and include chairlifts and draglifts.
For alternative skiing, head for one of the 12 nearby resorts and villages of the Portes du Soleil ski area, which comprises 650kms of pistes in total. For a daytrip away from the slopes, Thonon-les-Bains, on Lake Geneva, is an affluent spa town and the main centre of the region. Boat trips on the lake are popular.
The ski season at Les Gets runs from mid-December to late April and rates remain the same throughout the season. The most convenient way to get here is to fly to Geneva and take the Skibus (Altibus) to the resort, or hire a car.
