Limone is situated in a superb location near the French border, at the foot of the northwest facing slopes of the Maritime Alps. It’s only an hour from the Mediterranean Sea, lending it mild temperatures and plenty of sunshine. One of the oldest ski resorts in Italy, Limone Piemonte has fantastic intermediate skiing and is lift-linked with two other resorts.
Limone Piemonte is a charming village, brimming with Italian character and a refreshing Mediterranean atmosphere. Its cobbled streets and old buildings reveal a bustling town loaded with fashionable boutiques and art galleries, and there is plenty to do for the non-skier, apart from sightseeing.
Accommodation is wide ranging and plentiful, with 15,000 beds available in hotels, chalets and apartments. There are dozens of cafés and restaurants serving up traditional Italian fare, international cuisine and fast-food. Night-time entertainment is lively and varied, with piano concertos, piano bars and theatre shows, as well as several bars and discos. An excellent ski kindergarten is also on hand.
At the Limone Piemonte ski resort, forty-six runs stretch over 90kms of superb terrain which is mainly suited to intermediate level skiers and snowboarders; the longest run is six kilometres. Twenty-nine ski lifts operate over all pisted slopes, and include chairlifts and surface/draglifts, with an hourly capacity of 29,000 people.
French influence is strong in nearby Cuneo, which is noted for its local cuisine, crafts, folklore and festivals. It also boasts an interesting church, converted into a museum. The Cote d'Azur and its famous tourist centres of Nice, Monaco, Antibes and Cannes are only an hour’s drive away and offer a stark contrast to the skiing.
The Limone Piemonte ski season runs from December to April, with low season deals in mid-December and towards the end of the season. Most people fly to either Turin or Nice and take a train to the resort, or hire a car.
