Molines Ski and Snowboard Resort, France

Located in the French region of the Hautes-Alpes, close to the Italian border, Molines ski resort is surrounded by natural beauty and is for those who appreciate nature as well as fine skiing. The ski field is shared with nearby Saint-Veran, and there is also substantial cross-country skiing at the resort.

Molines itself is a traditional village that oozes rustic charm. Its buildings and streets are reminiscent of centuries gone by, with narrow alleys and log cottages. Despite being an old town, there are modern facilities, and non-ski activities include parasailing and dog-sledding. Accommodation is limited to four hotels that also provide the evening’s entertainment, along with a few restaurants.

There are 34 prepared pistes at Molines ski resort, stretching over 38kms of terrain, which is mainly given over to advanced skiers and snowboarders, while experts will be limited. Fifteen lifts operate over all pistes and include 14 tow lifts and one chairlift. Some excellent off-piste is also available on the north face of the Pic de Chateaurenard.

For alternative skiing, Montgenevre and Claviere straddle the French/Italian border and provide far more skiing and snowboarding options. Saint-Veran, Molines’ twin, is famed for its sundials, while the 14th century church near Molines has a double sundial. Other traditional villages scattered throughout the surrounding mountainside include: Gaudissard, La Rua, Pierre-Grosse and La Coin.

The ski season at Molines ski resort runs from early December to late March. The most convenient way of reaching Molines resort is to fly to Grenoble and hire a car, or transfer by shuttle, train and bus.
