Mount Rose Ski and Snowboard Resort, USA

Mount Rose ski resort lies in the Lake Tahoe region of Nevada and, besides stunning Sierra Nevada mountain scenery, it boasts the closest skiing to Reno-Tahoe International Airport. With its lack of crowds and cosy, friendly feeling, it is a perfect resort for families.

Mount Rose is Tahoe's highest base ski resort and has spectacular Lake Tahoe to the west and the entire state of Nevada to the east – a combination offering unrivalled panoramic views. Nearby Reno and neighbouring Incline Village offer hospitality to suit all visitors.

Nearby Reno is the obvious choice for accommodation and offers 17,000 hotel rooms at prices to suit all budgets. Incline Village is closer still and has accommodation as well, with the Hyatt Hotel being one of the more popular options. Restaurants can be found in both destinations. Après-ski for those who like gambling can be found in the casinos of Reno; while for others the town has plenty of good bars and nightclubs.

Skiing at Mount Rose leans towards advanced, tree-lined runs, although the terrain balance is fairly evenly distributed. There are 60 trails in total, with a longest run of four kilometres. Seven lifts in total have a combined capacity of 13,400 skiers per hour. Since crowds are uncommon at the resort, waiting times are generally very short. The Badlands and Double Down terrain parks are also available to test the skills of accomplished skiers and snowboarders.

Away from the slopes, Reno offers a variety of pursuits, including two wildlife parks, a museum of art and the Ft Churchill Historic State Monument. A daytrip destination that is popular with families is Pyramid Lake – the last remains of a huge inland sea that covered most of the Great Basin Desert.

The resort’s season runs mid-December to mid-March and the lifts are open from 09:00 to 16:00 daily. The most convenient way to reach Mount Rose is to fly to Reno and then either hire a car or take a hotel shuttle bus.
