Located 150kms southwest of Zürich, Murren ski resort is part of the famous Jungfrau ski region that houses the imposing Mount Eiger. An attractive and unspoilt ski resort, its gentle slopes are popular with families. There are also some difficult expert runs as well as off-piste for thrill-seekers and snowboarders. Top events held here are the Inferno-Ski Races and the Inferno Triathlon.
Murren is a small, but stunning village perched on the edge of a cliff, with picturesque hotels and chalets and majestic peaks in full view - the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. The streets are traffic-free and facilities are first rate, with various small shops and Alpine sports museums.
There is an extensive choice of lodging to suit all tastes, from simple inns to luxury hotels, and there are 2,000 guest beds available in total. Après-ski is mainly hotel-based and the nightlife is fairly sedate, featuring romantic fondue evenings, glacier bars, and dance clubs.
Murren ski resort's funiculars, cable cars and chairlifts transport sports enthusiasts to its 32 pistes that run over 53kms of mainly beginner and intermediate terrain. There are over 200kms of pistes in the Jungfrau region and the longest run is 16kms. Murren's 15 ski lifts are able to carry up to 9,100 people per hour.
If you want more varied skiing, you can slide across the Lauterbrunnen Valley that provides access to the Wengen and Grindelwald slopes, which largely please the intermediate skiers. The revolving restaurant, Piz Gloria (2,970m), was the site of the James Bond movie On Her Majesty's Secret Service and offers spectacular views of 200 mountains and 40 glaciers.
The Murren ski season runs from December to April, with cheap rates offered in mid-December, mid-January and mid-March. Murren ski resort is 150kms from Zürich and the most common way to get here is to fly to Zürich and transfer by train.
