Neustift im Stubaital Ski and Snowboard Resort, Austria

Neustift is situated in a breathtaking setting in the lush Stubai Valley and boasts an excellent ski resort. There is a large ski area with some of the slopes open year round, although slopes can become crowded in the summer. Neustift is a great family venue, with mostly easy skiing, beautiful scenery and has plenty to do away from the snow.

Neustift village (1,000m) is picturesque and friendly with considerable attractions and facilities. The traditional Tyrolean Alpine village is centred around a majestic, ornate church. A kindergarten (3- to 12-year-olds) is available at the top station on the Stubai Glacier.

Every type of accommodation is available in Neustift, from luxury hotel/resorts to bed-and-breakfasts, guesthouses, and private lodgings; there are 8,000 beds in total. The après-ski and nightlife in Neustift is considered quiet; however, there is an excellent range of over 70 restaurants to choose from.

Skiing is best suited to beginners and lower intermediates but there are also black areas. There is a total of 66kms of pisted runs in Neustift alone (130kms in the Stubai ski area) with a longest run of 10kms. Twenty-nine lifts, including five gondolas; nine chairlifts; and 15 T-bars have a total lift capacity of 36,000 people per hour.

The Innsbruck Glacier Pass, also encompassing Fulpmes and Telfes, enables you to use these other local ski areas, amounting to 130kms of unlinked pistes. Fulpmes and Telfes retain their charming old Tyrolean village atmosphere and are a delight for wandering. For the non-skier, the historic city of Innsbruck is a mere 45 minutes away by public bus.

Neustift im Stubaital has year-round skiing with special packages in winter, spring and autumn. The most convenient way of getting here is to fly to Innsbruck and hire a car, or take the free Skibus (between October and May).
