Ordino-Arcalis Ski and Snowboard Resort, Andorra

On the southern slopes of the Pyrenees, in the northwestern region of Andorra, Ordino-Arcalis is situated in a gladed and naturally preserved and protected area. Its northeast-to-northwest location allows for an extended winter and large amounts of high-quality snow. The ski fields are 15kms from Ordino and 4kms from El Serrat.

El Serrat is the closest lodging option, but the village of Ordino, 15kms farther south, has more options with better hotels and somewhat of a historic character. Ordino-Arcalis also boasts duty-free shops and sports outlets as well as a variety of cafés and café-bars for the all important après-ski and night-time activities.

The strategic distribution of the lifts (five chairlifts and eight gondolas) along with their capacity (16,510 people per hour) and the diversity of beginner, intermediate and advanced slopes, allows you to ski without crowds. There are 24kms of pisted runs at the Ordino-Arcalis resort, the longest of which is two kilometres. A nursery and kindergarten is also available.

Other ski resorts in Andorra include Pal-Arinsal, Soldeu and Pas de la Casa; all are within close proximity of one another. Soldeu and Pas de la Casa also offer expert skiing with more slopes. Andorra's capital, La Vella, is Europe's highest capital city (1,029m) and is renowned for its duty-free shopping opportunities. The main shopping street is Avinguda de Meritxell.

The ski season runs from December to April, with cheaper incentives offered at the beginning and end of the season, and in mid-January. The most convenient way to get here is to fly to Barcelona, or Toulouse, and take a regular scheduled bus, or hire a car.
