Located to the south of Aosta, Pila ski resort is surrounded by the highest peaks of the Alps: Mont Blanc, Monte Rosa, the Matterhorn and the Gran Paradiso range. Mild temperatures, good snow conditions and a fine network of ski lifts and slopes ensure great skiing and snowboarding.
Pila is both a traditional Alpine town and modern resort and boasts ski-in/ski-out accessibility from most of the accommodation. Facilities are excellent and there is a range of shops and first-aid.
Accommodation is offered in hotels, chalets and residences in Pila and Aosta, with 2,500 beds in the former and 2,000 in the latter. Après-ski is limited at Pila, but there are several good restaurants (both on and off the mountain) and four discos; while Aosta has lots of evening activity. Childcare is also available in the resort.
There are 70kms of downhill runs at Pila ski resort, with good open skiing and snowboarding and wide, wooded glades. There is a strong intermediate area and beginners and experts are also well catered for. One cable car, nine chairlifts and a surface lift have an hourly capacity for 18,900 people and serve all pistes, the longest of which is six kilometres over a 1,000m vertical.
For alternative skiing, Pila is near to Courmayeur, Cervina-Zermatt, Chamonix and La Thuile. Away from the slopes, there is plenty of interesting sightseeing in Aosta, with its Roman and medieval remains and museums, as well as numerous castles and manor houses in the area.
The ski season at Pila ski resort runs from December to April and the most convenient means for getting here is to fly to Turin or Milan and transfer by coach or hire a car.
