Powderhorn Ski and Snowboard Resort, USA

Located in southwestern Colorado, family-friendly Powderhorn is situated on the world’s largest plateau mountain - Grand Mesa. It is best known for its superb cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. Abundant snow falls and trails for all abilities also add to the resort’s appeal, as do the fantastic snowboarding terrain parks.

Powderhorn is a compact and family-orientated resort with modern base area facilities, including ski-in/ski-out accessibility, a conference room, ski clinics especially for children and women, and ski/sports shops. Slope-side lodging is available in the upmarket Inn at Wildwood, and two restaurants provide sustenance. Additionally, non-ski activities include snowmobiling and snowshoeing.

There are 29 trails at the Powderhorn ski resort spread over 206 hectares of beautiful mountain landscapes. Intermediate skiers and snowboarders have most of the terrain at Powderhorn, and the longest run is 3.5kms. Four lifts, including two surface lifts, a double chair and one quad chair, run over a 495-metre vertical to provide slope access for 4,300 people per hour.

For alternative skiing and snowboarding, Crested Butte Mountain ski resort is 100kms to the north and perfect for those into extreme sliding. There are three times more runs here than at Powderhorn, and two excellent terrain parks and a super-pipe. Away from the slopes, Powderhorn is surrounded by some stunning scenery, including Gunnison National Park.

Powderhorn’s ski season runs from early December to early April, with fixed pricing throughout. The most convenient way to get to Powderhorn is to take a domestic flight to Walker Field Airport at Grand Junction and transfer by car or shuttle bus.
