Rogla Ski and Snowboard Resort, Slovenia

Located in the Pohorje mountain range, northeast Slovenia, Rogla ski resort is one of those resorts where facilities and lodgings are on top of the mountain. Surrounded by natural beauty, Rogla has limited, but good, skiing and is the venue for the FIS and the European Ski Cup.

If the facilities are not enough for you at the resort, the historical spa town of Zrece is only 16kms away. Thermal pool facilities are available here and there is a range of shops and other services, as well as interesting sightseeing.

Hotels and chalets provide the bulk of the lodgings, with about 1,000 beds divided equally between Rogla and Zrece. For non-skiers, tobogganing and swimming, among other activities, are offered at the resort. Additionally, there is a variety of restaurants, a cinema and several bars and two nightclubs for your entertainment.

Rogla ski resort offers 10kms of pisted skiing, with terrain that is perfect for beginners and lower intermediates, making it a popular family destination. One quad chair, one double chair and nine surface lifts feed all pistes, the longest of which is 1.5kms.

For skiers and snowboarders looking for more challenging slopes, Mariborsko Pohorje ski resort, to the east, near Maribor, is the largest in the country and has a wider range of pistes. The Pohorje area has some interesting sightseeing, such as the Sumik Waterfall and a series of picturesque lakes (Lovrenska Jezera). The old castles at Celje and Ptuj are also worth visiting.

The Rogla ski season runs from November to April and the best way to get here is to fly to Ljubljana and then take a bus, via Celje and Zrece.
