Saint-Lary-Soulan Ski and Snowboard Resort, French Pyrenees

Located in the heart of a vast natural border area with Spain and situated in the southwest of the Midi-Pyrénées province, Saint-Lary-Soulan ski resort is arguably the most important ski centre in the French Pyrénées. Training site for the Spanish national ski team, Saint-Lary-Soulan has some fantastic intermediate and advanced slopes and sunset skiing is also possible.

Situated at the foot of the mountain resort, at 830m above sea level, Saint-Lary-Soulan has all the charm and character of a true mountain village where you'll discover a warm and authentic atmosphere. Saint-Lary-Soulan has modern facilities favouring tourism and yet maintains its old-world flavour.

There are 23,000 beds in a variety of accommodations, from bed and breakfasts to luxury four-star hotels; some tastefully built using traditional village architecture of wood, stone and slate. Après-ski is a mixture of créperies, fine restaurants, traditional pubs and modern bars.

Saint-Lary-Soulan ski resort boasts 52 wide-ranging slopes, mostly intermediate and advanced, and with good beginner and expert slopes also. There are 32 lifts, including trams and gondolas, 11 chairlifts (two and four-seaters), and 18 surface lifts, with a total capacity for 26,500 people per hour.

To the southwest and crossing borders, the Pyrenean National Park and the adjoining Ordesa National Park (Spain), protect over 60,000 hectares of land, and include the Néouvielle Nature Reserve with its dwarf pines. Alternatively, you could drive the Route d'Espagne for a trip around the Aragon valleys where you will discover Romanesque churches and magnificent scenery.

The ski season runs from December to mid-April, with special deals offered on the weeks leading up to the Christmas holiday, mid-January and from mid-March. Most people fly to Tarbes, or Toulouse, and take a train and bus combination, or hire a car to get to Saint-Lary-Soulan ski resort.
