Saint Veran Ski and Snowboard Resort, France

Located in the breathtakingly beautiful Queyras Regional Nature Park, Saint Veran is renowned as one of the most picturesque villages in France. Both an eco-friendly and family-friendly ski resort, Saint Veran is a great winter sport destination for a relaxing and rewarding holiday.

A tiny traditional village of just 270 inhabitants, Saint Veran is proud of its authentic Dauphine mountain lifestyle and culture. The centre of the town is dominated by the 17th century church, with plenty of delightful old buildings radiating outward. Saint Veran’s proximity to the Italian border explains its idyllic sunny weather, while its elevation of 2,042m ensures reliable snowfall during the ski season.

The village has accommodation for 1,800 guests in charming chalets and cottages. Après-ski options are very limited as the resort caters to families and closes down quite early, with just a few restaurants and bars to choose from. There are some excellent childcare facilities, such as nurseries and a ski kindergarten. Due to its clear skies and crisp air, Saint Veran is very popular with astronomy buffs.

Saint Veran’s slopes have over 38kms of prepared runs, with seven blue, seven green, three black and fourteen red runs. There are fourteen ski lifts and one chairlift, as well as a peak of 1,750m, featuring a vertical drop of 1,050m. 55kms of cross-country trails can be found around the resort and the Queyras area features a further 200kms. Snowboarding is limited to off-piste slopes which can be extremely challenging.

The ski season runs between mid-December and the end of March, and the conditions are good throughout with bargains to be had at either extreme of the season. Saint Veran is situated 170kms (three hours) from Grenoble International Airport.
