Located to the south of Lake Tahoe and east of San Francisco, Sierra at Tahoe has some of the best tree-skiing in the country and is less crowded than many Tahoe resorts. The skiing and snowboarding is spread over two peaks, and views of the lake are spectacular. Proximity to San Francisco and the extensive facilities of South Lake Tahoe also favour this quality ski resort.
There is no mountain village at the resort, but you will find a compact base area that's easy to get around. It offers all ski facilities, including rental and repair services at the main lodge, ski shops, an all-level ski school and childcare for children ages 18 months to five years. The emphasis at Sierra at Tahoe is one of friendly customer service.
Accommodation-wise, you’ll have to head for South Lake Tahoe or nearby ski resorts where you’ll find upscale condos, top-quality hotels and more moderately priced motels; a shuttle system provides access to the lodging. Other activities here include telemarking and swimming, and there are some great mountain restaurants. Additionally, the Lake Tahoe area has a vibrant night scene.
Sierra at Tahoe boasts 46 slopes across fabulous terrain, and is a great learner's mountain with a focus on intermediates. Twelve lifts operate over the 660-metre vertical to provide slope access and have an hourly uplift capacity of 14,900 people. The longest run is 4.2kms, and five terrain parks and a super-pipe keep boarders happy.
There are 13 other alpine resorts in the Lake Tahoe region, which includes California and Nevada. Additionally, there are other high-profile resorts worthy of a visit, including Heavenly, Squaw Valley and Kirkwood.
The ski season at Sierra at Tahoe runs from mid-November to mid-April; holiday rates are higher, while children under five ski for free. The most convenient way here is to fly to Reno and transfer to the resort by free hotel shuttle.
