Snowbird Ski and Snowboard Resort, USA

Located to the east of Salt Lake City, in Little Cottonwood Canyon, Snowbird ski resort is touted as having some of the best powder in the world and the largest vertical in Utah. Spectacular views, coupled with fantastic and challenging expert terrain and scores of intermediate and beginner slopes, make Snowbird a very popular ski destination

The resort itself is a modern, slope-side pedestrian village that has good facilities and services, and caters for the luxury end of the market. Accessibility is ski-in/ski-out, and childcare is offered for children from six weeks to 12 years, with full and half-day programs consisting of skiing, lunch and activities.

There are close to a thousand hotel rooms and condominiums in the moderate to luxury categories at Snowbird, as well as the Cliff Lodge, with its four restaurants, lounges and spa facilities. Non-ski activities include ice-skating; while the après-ski is fairly quiet and provided by the Cliff Lodge, the Inn and the Iron Blosam.

There are 85 slopes over a 900-metre vertical at Snowbird, with the emphasis on intermediates and experts, and the longest run is four kilometres. Ten lift systems, including high-speed quads, gondolas and bubbles, provide access at a rate of up to 16,800 people per hour.

For alternative skiing, Alta ski resort is nearby and is also renowned for its incredible snow consistency, while Snowbird offers snowmobile tours from Mineral Basin out through American Fort Canyon. Away from the slopes, Salt Lake City offers a wealth of sightseeing and shopping, and is surrounded by spectacular national parks.

The ski season at Snowbird ski resort runs from November to May and usually lasts from between 180 to 200 days. Skiers over the age of 65 get a discount and children under 12 ride the lifts for free when accompanied by an adult. The most convenient means of transportation is to fly to Salt Lake City and transfer by shuttle bus.
