Storlien Ski and Snowboard Resort, Sweden

The small, beautiful village of Storlien is well known for its clear mountain air, classical winter wonderland setting and its untouched natural surroundings. It is here that the Swedish Royal Family has its winter chalet, basking in one of the most romantic and unique settings in this part of the kingdom.

The resort of Storlien has an incomparable atmosphere and character perfectly defined by the typical timber framed buildings which play host to the small number of residences, shops and services in the village. The resort offers a generous assortment of slopes welcoming everyone from the novice skier to the expert looking for a break from the monotony of other less challenging resorts.

There are around 1,000 beds at the resort, with a choice of accommodation from traditional chalets to hotels. The resort has a special après-ski atmosphere with enough facilities to keep you busy including four bars, two discos and four cafés, plus live orchestra performances at the main hotel, which also acts as the hub for the resort’s nightlife.

Storlien offers 20 excellent varied slopes perfect for all levels and abilities, including four green, two blue, eight red and three black runs. The longest run at the resort measures 1.5kms and the total vertical descent is 190m at this village, which sits at an elevation of 640m and has a top elevation of 840m.

Eight lifts, consisting of five T-bars and three platters with a total uplift capacity of 6,000 skiers per hour, service this area. Along with the downhill slopes, there are 32kms of prepared cross-country terrain plus many more kilometres of unprepared, marked terrain. Ski schools for everything from skiing to boarding are also available at the resort.

The resort of Storlien is located just three kilometres from the Norwegian border, making daytrips to the neighbouring country easy. The nearest provincial city of Trondheim in Norway is a short train journey away and offers a pleasant, relaxed alternative. Trondheim is situated by the Trondheim fjord and surrounded by forested hills, with the Nidelva River winding through the town.

The season at Storlien ski resort runs from late November to early May, with good conditions throughout the season. Cheapest times are January 2 to mid-February and mid-April to May. The resort is 70kms from Trondheim International Airport, with a train service available from there to the resort.
