Vengen Ski and Snowboard Resort, Switzerland

Situated in the Jungfrau region of Switzerland, surrounded by spectacular natural waterfalls, mountains and pure mountain air, the resort of Wengen really is a magical place. This is the home of the monumental Lauberhorn World Cup downhill course – the longest and one of the most spectacular on earth.

Wengen ski resort is one of those places that creates a lasting impression, with perhaps the most striking scenery of any resort in the world and an ambience that affects every visitor. The resort is located in the Bernese Oberland amid the towering Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau mountains, and its 1,200 inhabitants go out of their way to make you feel as comfortable and welcome as possible.

There are around 5,500 beds at the resort in everything from traditional chalets to five-star hotels. The bars, cafés and restaurants at the resort provide a host of entertainment options, including folklore evenings, traditional Swiss cuisine and lively entertainment spots. Some of the mountain restaurants even offer overnight services! Children are well looked after at the resort, which offers a nursery, ski kindergarten and kids’ ski school.

The resort of Wengen has some stunning runs with 98kms of downhill slopes. These mostly favour intermediate skiers, who receive 50 per cent of runs. Beginners get 30 per cent, while advanced skiers get 20 per cent. The resort is connected to other resorts in the Jungfrau region and has access to a total of 213kms of ski runs, with the longest being 16kms.

Twenty-three lifts service the resort, with 42 in the whole region moving 42,000 skiers per hour. There are cross-country facilities in reach of the resort at the nearby Lauterbrunnen, with 17kms in total. Two schools provide an ample 100 instructors for ski and snowboard tuition.

The resort is located within the Lauterbrunnen Valley, probably the most impressive glacial valley in the Alps, with one of the largest protected natural areas in Switzerland. This picturesque landscape offers up magical waterfalls, graceful pastures and a healthy climate, all within reach of the resort of Wengen.

The season at Wengen runs from December to April, with fantastic snow conditions due to the resort’s high altitude. Fly to Berne-Belp Airport and transfer to the train station before boarding a train to the resort.
