Home to a total of 38 ski resorts and around 620 miles of cross country trails, the French Pyrenees offer holidaymakers a mix of stunning scenery along with charming and traditional towns and villages. The region's ski season normally runs from November through to April.
Aimed mainly at intermediate skiers is the Les Angles resort in Languedoc-Roussillon province. As the largest and most developed resort in the region, it offers excellent facilities including great shopping at ski and sport shops and a range of fashionable boutiques.
Meanwhile, Luz Ardiden is a popular family resort set amid lush green forests and rocky mountains with ski terrain to suit all abilities and some excellent cross-country trails. Luz-Saint-Saveur is the resort's village and offers a good range of accommodation and some pleasant après-ski venues.
Saint Lary Soulan is located a mere 12 miles from the border with Spain and is one of France's most popular resorts. Besides offering great ski terrain, Saint Lary Soulan offers modern accommodation and a fine selection of shops and amenities. Spain's national ski team uses the resort's slopes as their official training site.
Travelling to the French Pyrenees by air is convenient, with the Tarbes-Ossun-Lourdes Airport providing the closest connection. Alternatively, Toulouse, Perpignan and Barcelona airports provide reasonably close connections to some of the region’s resorts. Rail travellers can use France's highly efficient SCNF service from major destinations such as Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Brussels, Geneva, Madrid, Milan, Munich and the Rhine Valley, while road travellers will have few problems on France's well developed road network.
Winter ski holidays can present holidaymakers with the risk of injury or other incidents, as can travelling in an unfamiliar environment. Therefore, we strongly advise that you take out an appropriate travel insurance policy before your departure.
