Skiing in Norway

Renowned for its stunning landscapes, Norway is awash with rolling mountains, chiselled glaciers and scenic fjords. It provides perfect conditions for summer and winter hiking and has an all year-round ski season with some of the best terrain in Europe.

Situated between Hallingskarvet Mountain and the Hardangervidda plateau, Geilo is one of Norway's most popular ski resorts. Set against the beauty of the fjords, Geilo offers a range of pistes of varying difficulty. Despite the resort's popularity, it remains distinctly unspoilt and retains its unique Norwegian charm and personality.

Meanwhile, Norefjel is another great resort situated a little over an hour’s drive from Oslo. Set against a backdrop of stunning mountain peaks and offering terrain to suit skiers and snowboarders of all abilities, Norefjel is a popular option for all.

Situated on the edge of a lake in the heart of the fjord region, Voss is an equally attractive option. An hour's drive from city of Bergen brings you to a resort that offers great skiing amid the beautiful scenery of the surrounding snowy mountains, while resorts at Hemsedal, Kvitfjell, Hafjell and Lillehammer provide alternative ski choices.

Norway's main air gateway is the international airport at the capital, Oslo, with an additional 36 airports spread around the country. Both electric and diesel trains operate services across the length of the country, with express trains crossing the mountainous areas between Oslo, Stavanger, Bergen and Trondheim. Bus services are a cheaper and reliable transport alternative, while steamer or car travel are also convenient options.

Bear in mind that winter sport holidays carry the risk of injury to those participating, while travelling in an unfamiliar environment can also present unforeseen hazards. Obtaining appropriate travel insurance before embarking on a Norwegian ski trip is highly recommended.
