Anthony Lakes ski resort is located near the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest in the northeast of Oregon, 470kms east of Portland, and is only directly accessible by road. A combination of flying to Portland International Airport and transferring by shuttle bus, or hire car, is the best travel option; while self-driving and train and shuttle bus combinations, via Portland, are lengthy journeys.
Portland International Airport is the nearest major airport to Anthony Lakes and it is also possible to charter a light aircraft to Baker City Municipal Airport at a substantial cost. Several private shuttle bus companies have departures to Anthony Lakes from Portland Airport.
By road from Portland Airport, Anthony Lakes is a five-hour drive along I-84 to North Powder (exit 285), from where the North Powder River road and the Anthony Lakes highway go to the resort. From Seattle, take interstates 90, 82, 84 (south) and exit at 285, as above (580kms; six hours). Boise is 245kms south of Anthony Lakes on I-84.
Amtrak trains run to Portland and away from Los Angeles, in the south, and Seattle, in the north; however, travelling times are long and sleeper cars are expensive. Greyhound Lines coaches also runs to Portland from Seattle, Los Angeles and Chicago.
