Lying to the north of the provincial capital of Sion, and south of Bern, Anzère ski resort can only be accessed by road, with a train station in nearby Sion, and an international airport 180kms to the west, in Geneva. Most travellers fly to Geneva and take a train/bus combination to the resort. Travellers also have the option of train travel from London and self-drive.
The nearest international airport is Geneva’s Cointrin Airport which receives scheduled and charter flights from numerous destinations. From the airport, trains run every hour to Sion, from where the Poste buses or taxis go to Anzère ski resort. Hiring a car from the airport is the fastest and most convenient transfer.
Self-drive from Calais involves over a day’s driving along autoroutes and main roads via Reims, Dijon and Lausanne (880kms). From Geneva’s Cointrin Airport, drive along the A-1, and A-9 for Sion, exiting the A-9 (north) onto Route d’hérens. From here follow the signs to Anzère (175kms/two hours).
Trains from London involve four or more changes, including a bus connection from Sion to Anzère. The 08:12 Eurostar departure from London (Waterloo) is a good option. Arriving at Paris (Nord) at 11:47, travellers must then transfer to gare de Lyon from where a TGV goes to Lausanne at 13:04, arriving at 16:52. An Interregional train then leaves for Sion at 17:00, arriving one hour later.
The next available bus (three minutes walk from the train station) then leaves Sion at 18:20 and arrives in Anzère about 30 minutes later.
