Getting to Argentiere, France for your Skiing and Snowboarding Holiday

Argentiere ski resort is 90kms southeast of Geneva and 245kms east of Lyon in the Haute Savoie region of France, in the Chamonix valley, and is accessible by road and rail. The best and most convenient option is to fly into Geneva and transfer by train, while self-drive is also attractive due to the proximity of the European motorway network. International train travel is another option.

The nearest major airport is Geneva-Cointrin, from where there are rail and coach transfers to the Chamonix valley, including Argentiere. Several trains leave every hour, taking about 3 hours, 30 minutes. Lyon-Satolas Airport offers a viable alternative to Geneva-Cointrin; buses go to Lyon train station, from where trains go to Argentiere.

If you're coming from the UK by car, take the ferry to Calais. The quickest route from here bypasses the cities of Reims, Dijon and Annemasse, along major autoroutes (motorways). From Annemasse, continue along the A-40 autoroute which joins route N-205 near Le Fayet (900kms; eight hours). The drive from Geneva-Cointrin Airport is about an hour along the A-40/N-205.

Regular daily Eurostar trains depart from London's Waterloo station, to Paris (Nord), where you need to change to gare de Lyon. From here, there is a service to Saint Gervais les Bains (near Argentiere) from where local SNCF trains go to the resort. The 08:12 Eurostar from London has the most convenient connections. Alternatively, there is a direct overnight service to Bourge St Maurice and Aime La Plange on Fridays and Saturdays.

There is also a direct coach service provided by Eurolines from London's Victoria Coach Station to Chamonix. This is the cheapest method of getting to Argentiere ski resort.
