Getting to Berchtesgadener, Germany for your Skiing and Snowboarding Holiday

Lying to the west of Salzburg, in the south of Bavaria, Berchtesgadener Land ski resort is easily reached using a number of options. The most practical way to get to Berchtesgadener is to fly to Salzburg International Airport, take a shuttle to the train station, and a regular train to the resort. Self-drive is a popular option, and there is a train connection from London.

The nearest international airport is in Salzburg. There are regular shuttles and buses to the train station, where hourly trains go to Berchtesgaden, with a change at Freilassing. Hiring a car is a lot more convenient. Münich’s FJ Strauss Airport has more flight options than Salzburg, and has a rail terminal with a link to the city. From here, 12 trains a day go to Berchtesgaden.

By car from Salzburg International Airport, take the A-1, A-10 and B-305. From Münich Airport drive along the A-92 (west), and then the A-9 and A-99 (Münich bypass), onto the A-8 (Münich-Salzburg) autobahn, then south on the B-305 to the resort (195kms/two hours). Berchtesgaden Land ski resort is 1,130kms from Calais via the cities of Reims, Metz, Stuttgart and Münich; allow two days travel time.

The Berchtesgaden train station lies on the Munich-Freilassing line. Twelve trains a day arrive from Münich (trip time: one hour, 30 minutes). From London, a daily Paris-bound Eurostar train leaves Waterloo station at 17:09, arriving at gare du Nord. From gare de l’Est an overnight train goes on to Münich, arriving the next morning. Overnight trains also go via Zürich. From Zürich, trains run throughout the day to Salzburg, via Innsbruck.

Regional bus service to Alpine villages and towns around Berchtesgaden is offered by RVO Regionalverkehr Oberbayern at Berchtesgaden.
