Located in southwestern Montana and acting as the western gateway to Yellowstone National Park, Big Sky ski resort is 65kms south of Bozeman and 300kms west of Billings, and is directly accessible by road only. The resort is well connected by road from far away destinations, but the easiest way here is to fly to Gallatin Field Airport and transfer by bus.
Bozeman-Gallatin Field Airport receives flights from many major airports such as Denver, LA and Salt Lake City, and every flight is met by shuttle buses for transport to Big Sky. By car from Gallatin Airport, head south along highways 85 and 191, and turn right on Big Sky road for the resort (70kms; one hour). Billings and Great Falls international airports offer alternatives.
Bozeman is on the east-west (Chicago-Seattle) I-90 which also takes in Billings; while I-15 approaches from the south. If coming from Salt Lake City, turn off on to highway 20 at Idaho Falls to west Yellowstone, from where highways 287 and 191 go to Big Sky.
A free shuttle bus runs between the Big Sky villages between 07:00 and 23:00, starting in mid-December and running through the winter season.
