Near the border with Switzerland in the Aosta Valley, lying 100kms north of Turin, Cervinia / Valtournenche ski resort is only directly accessible by road, but is straightforward enough to get to. Flying to Turin and hiring a car is the fastest option, while international rail travel to nearby Chatillon train station is the next best alternative.
Turin’s Casselle Airport is the nearest airport to Cervinia / Valtournenche ski resort and is only just over an hour away by car on the A-5 and SS-406 roads. Other transfer alternatives include a train journey to Chatillon (nearest station to Cervinia and Valtournenche), from where buses go to the resorts, or bus all the way. Milan-Malpensa and Geneva-Cointrin airports are alternatives.
From within Italy, Cervinia and Valtournenche are connected to the European motorway network via the SS-406 and the A-5 autostrada. If you’re driving from the UK, the quickest route from Calais goes via Reims, Dijon, Annemasse (Geneva) and Aosta. From Aosta, carry on along the A-5/SS-26, exiting on to the SS-406 at Chatillon for the region (990kms; 10 hours).
Travelling by rail is efficient and there is a direct overnight express train between Paris and Milan, from where local services go to Chatillon; Cervinia and Valtournenche are only a short bus ride from here. There are numerous Paris-bound Eurostar trains from London (Waterloo) every day, taking a little under four hours.
Eurolines buses run from all over Europe to Turin, from where local buses and the train/bus combination go to Cervinia and Valtournenche.
