Chamrousse ski resort is 30kms southeast of Grenoble and is only accessible by road, with the nearest rail station and airport in Grenoble. The most practical way to get here is to fly to Grenoble and transfer by bus, via Grenoble bus station, to the resort. There is a train connection from London to Grenoble and self-drive is also very popular.
Grenoble-Saint-Geoirs Airport is the closest major airport to Chamrousse ski resort and there is a bus service that goes frequently to Grenoble, from where bus number 601 goes to the resort. By hire car, head east for the (A-48) Grenoble autobahn, drive through Grenoble heading for Saint-Martin-d'Hères on the D-523, and then follow the signs (80kms; one hour). Lyon-Satolas is an alternative airport with rail access to Grenoble.
By car from the UK, travel usually involves a ferry crossing from Dover to Calais. The quickest route from Calais is the Reims-Dijon-Lyon-Grenoble route. From Grenoble, head over the river and through the city on to the D-523 and follow the signs for Chamrousse (900kms; eight hours).
There are several daily trains that go from London, via Paris, to Grenoble (near Chamrousse). A convenient connection has the 09:09 Eurostar departing from Waterloo station for Paris (Nord). A TGV high-speed service then goes to Grenoble from gare de Lyon at 14:30, arriving at 17:31. From Grenoble, take bus number 601 to Chamrousse (45 minutes). Eurolines buses also go from London, and across Europe, to Grenoble.
