Crans Montana ski resort is 180kms east of Geneva in the canton of Valais and is accessible by road and funicular railway. The usual route here is to fly to Geneva and transfer by train to Sion, or Sierre, and then take a Post bus. Trains from London go via Paris and Lausanne, and many travellers prefer to self-drive.
The closest international airport is Geneva’s Cointrin Airport, which has a rail terminal with regular departures to Sion, and Sierre. Post buses go on from these cities and take about 30 minutes (total travel time: three hours). In addition, a funicular train goes to Montana from Sierre. Alternatively, nearby Sion Airport receives flights from London and Zürich, with transfers by bus or taxi of only 30 minutes.
The Calais-Reims-Dijon-Lausanne self drive route takes in well established motorways, beginning on the A-26 from Calais, through to the A-9 to Sierre. From Sierre, follow the signs for Crans-Montana along the mountain road (885kms/nine hours). From Cointrin Airport follow the A-1/A-9 (Lake Geneva motorway) and take the first exit off the A-9 for Sierre (180kms/1 hour, 30 minutes to 2 hours).
There are frequent train connections from London throughout the day, going via Paris, Lausanne, and Sion. A good connection has a Eurostar leaving Waterloo at 08:12, and arriving in Paris, gare du Nord, at 11:47. From nearby gare de Lyon a TGV goes to Lausanne, departing at 13:04, and arriving at 16:52. An Interregional train leaves here for Sion at 17:00, and arrives at 18:00, from where a Post bus goes to Crans-Montana at 18:20.
Trains leave from Monday to Saturday and there are several return options.
