Located 115kms northeast of Toronto, near the Kawartha Lakes region, Devil’s Elbow ski resort is only a 90-minute drive from the city. Flying direct to Toronto and taking the ski bus or hiring a car is the quickest way to get here; while Toronto is also well served by rail from the US and other Canadian cities.
The nearest major airport is Lester B Pearson International Airport, just west of Toronto city centre, receiving direct flights from the UK, across Canada and the US. Coaches are available for transfer to Devil’s Elbow resort or, if you hire a car, take highway 401 from the airport east to Clarington, from where highway 115 heads for Bethany (130kms; two hours).
By road from Ottawa, head southwest out of the city on highway 417, which becomes highway 7 and carries on to Peterborough. From here, take highways 28 and 7A southwest to Bethany and follow the signs (300kms; four hours). If coming from New York, follow I-80/81 all the way to Rockport, Ontario, from where highway 401 goes west to Port hope, highway 28 goes north towards Peterborough and highway 7A goes west to Devil’s Elbow (800kms; nine hours).
If coming from Montréal, trains leave for Toronto about every two or three hours, taking 4 hours, 30 minutes. There is also a daily departure from New York’s Penn Station (Maple Leaf Train) at 16:18, with a five-minute stop at the border, arriving in Toronto at 07:44 the next morning.
Greyhound has a service about every two hours from Ottawa (a five-hour journey) and buses from Montréal also leave about every two hours, taking about 7 hours, 30 minutes to reach Toronto. Buses also leave from New York throughout the day and take from between 10 and 12 hours to get to Toronto. Local buses and taxis run to Devil’s Elbow from the bus and train stations.
