Getting to Edelweiss, Canada for your Skiing and Snowboarding Holiday

Edelweiss ski resort is located in the Outaouais ski region, about 40kms northwest of the Canadian capital, and near the town of Wakefield. Most people prefer to fly to Ottawa International Airport and transfer by bus or train, while rail travel to Ottawa from other Canadian and nearby US cities is also popular, as is self-drive.

The nearest major airport is Ottawa International, receiving flights nationwide and from across the US, as well as direct flights from a number of international cities. Bus transfers are the most common form of travel to Edelweiss. If you hire a car, cross the Ottawa River and follow highway 5. Alternatively, Montréal-Dorval Airport has more flight options.

By road from Montréal, take Highway 40 (west) leading on to the 417 for Ottawa, from where highway 5 continues towards Wakefield (20kms; three hours). From Toronto, take highways 401, 37 and 7 to Ottawa, and then follow highway 5, as above (450kms; five to six hours).

From New York, take I-80 and I-81 to the end, from where highways 401 and 416 go to Ottawa, and then take highway 5 for Edelweiss (750kms; eight to nine hours).

Trains leave about four times daily from Toronto to Ottawa (four hours) and leave every three hours from Montréal, taking under two hours. If you’re coming from New York in the US, there is a daily departure from Penn station to Montréal at 08:15, arriving at 18:30.

Greyhound buses arrive from Toronto (five hours) and Montréal (two to three hours). From New York, day and night buses run to Ottawa, taking 11 hours; from Chicago, the journey is 19 hours. Ski buses run from both the rail and bus stations in Ottawa to Edelweiss.
