Getting to Engelberg, Switzerland for your Skiing and Snowboarding Holiday

Engelberg ski resort is only 90kms south of Zürich in central Switzerland and is accessible by road and rail. The most practical way to get to Engelberg is to fly to Zürich and take a train direct from the airport to the resort, with a change in Lucerne. Travel by rail from London is also an option, and self-driving is popular.

The nearest international airport is Zürich International Airport (103kms) which receives numerous charter and scheduled flights from most major cities, worldwide. There are two trains per hour throughout the day to Engelberg, with a change at Lucerne (average travel time: two hours, 40 minutes). The same route by hire car will take half the time.

From Zürich International Airport take the A-20 (Zürich bypass autobahn) on a heading for Lucerne (A-4/A-14). From Lucerne, take the A-2 to the Engelberg exit (south on route 374). The quickest route by car from Calais is the Reims-Metz- Strasbourg-Basel-Lucerne route. From Lucerne, follow the A-2 autobahn to the route 374 turn-off for Engelberg (884/eight hours).

Trains from London usually involve three or four changes to get to Engelberg ski resort (12 to 19 hours). A good connection has a Eurostar leaving London (Waterloo) at 07:43 and arriving in Brussels (Midi) at 11:03. A Eurocity train leaves at 12:15 for Basel (18:36), from where another high-speed train leaves at 18:52 for Lucerne.

The Lucerne-bound train arrives at 20:05, and another train goes from Lucerne to Engelberg at 20:15, arriving at 21:12 (travel time: 12 hours, 29 minutes).
