Getting to Flaine, France for your Skiing and Snowboarding Holiday

Flaine is located 65kms southeast of Geneva and only 20kms from the Swiss border (as the crow flies) in the Grand Massif ski area and getting here is fairly straightforward, with three main options. Flying to Geneva and transfering by bus, or train/bus combination is the quickest, while self-drive and rail travel are also popular.

Geneva-Cointrin is the nearest airport, receiving numerous flights the world-over, including budget carriers. There are three shuttles to Flaine daily from Geneva-Cointrin or the downtown Geneva bus station. Alternatively, you can take the train to Cluses and then a Transport Alpbus to Flaine. Lyon, Chambery and Annecy also have airports.

Self-drive from the UK usually involves a ferry crossing from Dover to Calais. From Calais, the quickest route takes in major autoroutes via the cities of Reims, Dijon and Annemasse (Geneva). From Annemasse, Flaine is accessible by driving along the A-40 (880kms; eight to nine hours). By hire car from Geneva-Cointrin Airport, drive though the city and take the A-40 southeast, exiting at junction 19 on to the N-205 and D-6 for Flaine (70kms; one hour).

By train, Eurostar have a regular and fast service to Paris, from where high-speed TGV and standard trains go to Annecy and Geneva. From either city, take a regional Sallanches-bound train, stopping off at Cluses (nearest station to Flaine). Coach or taxi transfers are available from the railway station up to Flaine.
