Gressoney ski resort is 100kms north of Turin and 170kms west of Milan in the Monte Rosa Valley, and it is only directly accessible by road, making self-drive a popular option. International rail travel from London is also feasible, while the most practical way is to fly to Turin and take a train/bus transfer, or hire a car.
The nearest airport is Turin-Aeroporto Citta di Torino, which is only a one-hour drive away from Gressoney, or a transfer by train and bus, via the city. There are direct flights from London to Turin as well as to the nearest alternative airport, Milan-Malpensa. Flying to Geneva-Cointrin Airport is another option.
Self-drive from the UK usually involves a ferry crossing from Dover to Calais, from where the quickest route takes in Reims, Dijon, Annemasse (Geneva) and Aosta. From here, carry on east along the A-5 to Pont-Saint-Martin, and then head north along the SS-505 for the villages (1,030kms; 9 to 10 hours).
From Turin’s Aeroporto Citta di Torino Airport, head for the A-5 (Turin-Aosta) autobahn along the Superstrada Torino-Castelle, and bear right at Pont-Saint-Martin on to the SS-505 for Gressoney ski resort. From Milan-Malpensa Airport, Gressoney is accessible along the A-4 (west) and A-5 (north) to Pont-Saint-Martin, as above.
There are day and night trains from Paris to Turin (5 hours, 30 minutes), from where regional trains go to Pont-Saint-Martin and local buses go to both Gressoney villages. The London to Paris leg (four hours maximum) has several Eurostar trains leaving Waterloo station throughout the day and evening. Pont-Saint-Martin receives services from all gateway cities.
