Getting to Hlíðarfjall-Akureyri, Iceland for your Skiing and Snowboarding Holiday

Located in the north of Iceland, near the town of Akureyri, Hlíðarfjall ski resort can be reached using a number of transportation options including: flying; bus from Reykjavík; and driving. The most convenient option is to fly to Reykjavík, take a domestic flight to Akureyri and a Ski bus from Akureyri Airport to the resort.

The nearest international airport which receives worldwide flights from major cities is in Reykjavík, the capital. The quickest way to Akureyri from here is to take a domestic flight. Alternatively, SBA-Norðurleið runs a regular scheduled, year round bus service between Reykjavík and Akureyri, or you could hire a car and self-drive. There are also direct flights from Copenhagen to Akureyri.

By car, the route to Akureyri from Reykjavík follows Iceland’s main highway, the Hringbraut (ring road), route one. The 400–kilometre journey follows the coast from Reykjavík, via Borgarnes, Laugarbakki, and Varmahlíð, and will take anything from six hours and up, depending on snow and road conditions.

The Ski bus from Akureyri Airport to the resort and back operates three times a day.
