Getting to Kanin, Slovenia for your Skiing and Snowboarding Holiday

Kanin is 125kms northwest of Ljubljana and 175kms northeast of Venice-Marco Polo, in the Triglav National Park, and the quickest way to get here is to fly to Ljubljana and hire a car, or take the bus. International rail to Bled or Ljubljana is also a popular travel option, while self-drive can lead to long journey times.

Ljubljana-Golubovci Airport is the nearest and has numerous flight options from around the world. Transfer options from here are car hire and bus travel. Kanin is a two-hour (125kms) drive from the airport, via the A-1 and highway 1. Venice-Marco Polo Airport is an alternative, with Kanin best reached by hire car from here.

By car, Kanin is 420kms from Vienna, 380kms from Munich and 1,220kms from Paris. The most direct route from Calais is 1,350kms, utilising autoroutes and autobahns and taking between 11 and 13 hours. The route goes via Reims, Metz, Strasbourg, Stuttgart, Munich, Salzburg and Villach. From Villach, take the A-2 southwest into Italy, and then the SS-54 and route 54 into Slovenia.

The main train routes into Slovenia run from Salzburg, Trieste, Vienna and Zagreb, to Ljubljana. If coming from the UK, Eurostar trains go from Waterloo station in London to Paris (Nord). A direct overnight Express then goes from Paris (gare de l’Est) to Munich, from where Eurocity trains go through Salzburg and on to Villach (south Austria). Buses go to Bovec from here.
