Kvitfjell ski resort is 230kms north of Oslo in the east of Oppland, and is accessible by road and rail. The quickest way here is to fly to Oslo and hire a car, while train travel from the airport is more convenient. International rail travel is the next best option, but self-drive can involve very long journey times.
The nearest airport is Oslo’s Gardermoen Airport, from where there is a direct train service all the way to Kvitfjell. Buses also offer transfer to the resort. If you hire a car at the airport, take routes 174 and 176 to the E-6 European highway and drive north to Favang, from where routes 384 and 319 go to Kvitfjell (195kms; three hours).
If you’re driving from the UK, the best route uses the ferry crossing from Newcastle to Bergen (Norway), from where the most direct route follows the E-16, highways 13, 55 and 15 and the E-6 (south) to Kvitfjell (440kms; eight hours from Bergen). The route from Calais is very long and goes via Antwerp, Essen and Hamburg, right up through Denmark and the ferry crossing to Larvik.
Rail travel is much more convenient than taking your own car. There is an overnight service from Brussels to Copenhagen and a connecting train to Oslo. Trains from Oslo go direct to Kvitfjell, via Gardermoen Airport. If you’re coming from the UK, there are regular Eurostar trains from London’s Waterloo station to Brussels’ Midi station.
