Getting to La Clusaz, France for your Skiing and Snowboarding Holiday

La Clusaz is 50kms south of Geneva and 30kms east of Annecy in the northern Alps, and is only directly accessible by road. Most people fly to Geneva and take the Skibus to the resort, or hire a car for added convenience. Self-drive is a popular option, with the rich network of motorways; while travelling by train is also feasible, with a change to bus at Annecy.

The nearest major airport is Geneva-Cointrin Airport and there is a bus which goes to La Clusaz throughout the day. Geneva-Cointrin also has a rail terminal with regular train departures to Annecy, from where a local bus goes to the resort. Annecy-Meythet Airport and Lyon-Satolas are alternative airports.

By car from Calais, the quickest route goes via Reims, Dijon, and Annemasse. From here, continue along the A-40 and exit on to the D-12 (south), towards the resort (850kms; eight or nine hours). From Geneva-Cointrin Airport, take Route de Meyrin and Route de Malagnou through the city, connecting with the A-40 and the D-12 (55kms; 50 minutes). If weather conditions are very bad, come through Annecy (linked to resort weather bulletin).

Trains go all day from London (Waterloo) to Paris (Nord). Change to gare de Lyon, from where high-speed TGV trains go direct to Annecy. From Annecy, buses run four times a day to La Clusaz. High-speed trains arrive in Annecy from all over France. Eurolines buses also go to Geneva and Annecy and offer the cheapest, but most uncomfortable, travel option.
