Located in the Aosta Valley, near Mont Blanc and 150kms northwest of Turin, La Thuile ski resort is only directly accessible by road and has a rail station nearby. Options for getting here include international rail travel, self-drive, and a combination of a flight to either Geneva or Turin, with several transfer options.

Geneva-Cointrin Airport is the closest, but Turin’s Aeroporto Citta di Torino is the same transfer time by hire car. Both airports have numerous flight options and their respective cities have direct bus services to La Thuile. You can also take a train/bus combination, via Pre-St-Didier (near La Thuile), from Turin.

The best self-drive route from Calais goes via Reims, Dijon and Annemasse (near Geneva). From here, head south on the A-40 towards Chamonix, through the Mont Blanc Tunnel and follow the signs to La Thuile, via Pre-St-Didier (925kms; eight to nine hours). This route utilises several tolled motorways that will cost about €100 in either direction. The Mont Blanc Tunnel is also tolled and costs €32, return.

From the airport in Turin, follow the A-5 autostrada to the end (near Pre-St-Didier), and then take the SS-26 to La Thuile ski resort (155kms; 1 hour, 30 minutes). From Geneva, take the A-40 towards Chamonix, go through the Mont Blanc Tunnel and follow the signs to La Thuile (116kms; 1 hour, 30 minutes).

From London (Waterloo), or Ashford (Kent), Eurostar trains go all day to Paris, from where services go to Turin. Regional trains go on to Pre-St-Didier from Turin, and then local buses ply the La Thuile route; there is also an overnight train from Paris to Turin. In the winter there is a direct service from London to Bourg-Saint-Maurice (France), from where buses go to La Thuile.
